Crystal Cove's Nonprofit Branding Strategy for Success
Preserving, Protecting, and Sustaining a Beloved Southern California Landmark
Crystal Cove Conservancy is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and sustainability of the Crystal Cove State Park and its unique history and unmatched natural environment in Southern California. Initially founded to save 41 oceanfront cottages from being demolished and replaced by a luxury resort, the organization has since grown to not only protect and preserve, but also build a thriving educational program in addition to managing the cottages and historic village for the State of California. With this growth and change, their brand had become stale and in need of updating to better reflect the current purpose of the organization.
Being a well-known southern California landmark, we were excited when Crystal Cove contacted us to partner with them for this important effort. The six month rebranding effort included an intensive discovery insight workshop, naming strategy, and research phase including interviews and surveys. All of this resulted in a detailed brand guide that also included important messaging guidelines so that key members of the organization deliver branded messaging to the community consistently and cohesively.

Bobby, Charlie, and the entire Buchanan Design team always come through for us. Their creativity is matched only by their ability to uncover what we really need to help our organization meet our strategic goals. They focus on creating relationships with clients so they can better understand and meet our needs, on budget and on time, every time.
