If you were around the Coronado municipal golf course last week Wednesday you would have heard plenty of FORE’s from the BD crew. We teed off in a charity golf tournament supporting FreshStart, an organization that provides free reconstructive plastic surgery and related medical services to disadvantaged children and young people with physical deformities. One of our clients, Imaging Healthcare Specialists, has been putting on the tourney for the past 6 years and this year was our first time playing in it.
Joey, Bobby, myself, and golf ringer Harry hit the course with a sense of anticipation. You see Joey and Bobby had never set foot on a golf course before, 18 holes of Tiger Woods golf on the wii just doesn’t add up. Luckily we were playing best ball, so on the first few holes it was up to Harry and I to get us on the green. His hook and my slice made for an eventful day on the front 9, but it didn’t take long for Joey and Bobby to get the swing of things. By the 10th hole we started riding their backs to get to the green, sure balls were being teed up in the middle of the fairway but 589 yards is a long way!
The highlight of the day came on the 11th hole, we let the group behind us play through so now a new group was behind us. When they arrived on the scene Joey was set to tee off, his nerves got the better of him and he swung and missed a few times . . . ok maybe a bunch of times. So then they requested to play through, Harry got a glance at their score card and it pretty much was 5 under par, compared to our 12 over par. I guess they didn’t want to wait around?
A few “happy gilmore” drives, lots of mulligans and some custom gatorade, we had an awesome time. After stressing about playing on a real golf course, Joey is in the market to buy his first set of clubs. I’d say next year we’ll be the ones playing through!
